Good Pitch Karnataka was a day-long networking event showcasing short-form non-fiction media projects that are deeply relevant to Karnataka and its people.

It was an opportunity for organizations to make a radical creative collaboration with mediamakers and changemakers within their communities and usher in an impactful change.

How does it work?

An equal number of media makers and organizations pitch projects and ideas in an expertly moderated program of three-minute pitches. Then the room discusses how they might help.

FINANCIAL RESOURCES often in the form of micro-grants of ₹50,000 - ₹100000

Driving with Selvi
Mediamaker – Elisa Paloschi

Driving with Selvi is a feature documentary on Selvi, a former child bride, who escaped her violent marriage to become South India’s first female taxi driver. Director Elisa Paloschi wants to make the film more accessible by creating shorter version, and an accompanying educational guide.

Tale of a River
Mediamaker - Abhaya Simha & NAM Ismail

Tale of a River is a documentary film to present the real story of the Netravati river diversion project. The filmmakers want to create awareness and thus build a movement against this project.

David Vs Goliath in Uppinabetagiri
Mediamaker - Sushma Veerappa

A contest between the local, rain-fed, pest resistant, organically grown, cotton seed V/S Bt cotton, notoriously popularised by a multinational. The documentary filmmaker persuades a farmer to help her facilitate a case for the relevance of the local in a globalised world.

Jack Journeys
Mediamaker - Vinod Raja

A short documentary campaigning for the Jackfruit, an easy to grow fruit that survives pests, diseases and rising temperatures, which is resistant to droughts and even famine! In spite of all its miraculous powers, an estimated Rs. 8000 crores worth of Jackfruit is wasted in South India alone.

Clean Toilets
Community Leader - Archana K.R.

The only thing that stands in the way of lakhs of adolescent girls across Karnataka from completing their school education is a toilet! Bangalore-based Archana KR is on a mission to change that by persuading the Government and other stakeholders to provide clean and safe toilet facilities.

A multimedia campaign (feature stories, photo essays, videos, events) to end the life-threatening, inhumane and casteist practice of manual cleaning of sewers in a targeted manner in Bengaluru (by 2020?).

I Never Ask For It
Organization - Blank Noise

The 'I Never Ask For It' mission is a five-year effort to end victim blaming by building testimonies through their clothing. The project is a safe space for survivors of sexual assault across Karnataka, but for the survivors, the audio testimonials, of similar sexual assault survivors can become a mode of connection and healing.

With IPC 377 abolished, what will it mean to sexual minorities from different backgrounds? New possibilities and challenges, and to inclusively decide the future campaigns based on the inputs gathered from community members across Karnataka.

Organization - Aravani Art Project

‘Ten-Fold’ aims for creative interventions in public spaces in 10 Districts in Karnataka about Transgender and sex-worker issues which need visibility, solidarity, and awareness. A documentary of the project in action will be used as an archival for culture, impact studies and help in the future of policymaker, health-care, and other interventions.

What if local communities had the tools to tell the stories of their own lesser known role models? Training women to tell the stories of those women of substance from local communities who inspired them.

Organization - Citizens For Sustainability

A campaign to create a behavioral change in drivers of motor vehicles to respect and accommodate pedestrians/cyclists on the streets.
